How the Canvas Becomes Music
Horizontal position represents time, vertical position represents pitch, and color selects the instrument. The default canvas uses 8 measures, 4/4 time, and a sixteenth-note grid, and can be extended further. Line, freehand, recolor, eraser, and undo tools let you edit melodies like graphics.
Five music worlds offer 25 mode combinations, with 12 possible tonics and tempos from 60–160 BPM. Each world has different instrument slots. The actual sounds come from 16 open samples, played and transposed through Web Audio in the browser.
Save, Import & Share
Drafts are saved locally in the browser by default. You can also download JSON to continue editing, or import JSON and MIDI as starting points. A work enters the sharing service only after explicit publication. Ordinary shares are retained for about 180 days; works placed in the public gallery are kept long term until deleted by the author or removed under moderation rules.
Public works support comments, likes, and reports. When importing MIDI or using other materials, publishers are still responsible for confirming that they hold the necessary rights.
What It Is Not
MelodyCanvas does not capture microphone input or analyze human voices. The “sound” here comes from the musical structure you draw.
