How a Karaoke Room Works

After entering Stage, you can create a public or invite-only room, or join an existing room from the lobby, a six-digit room code, or an invitation link. Participants add supported video links to the playlist, and queue entries are tied to the person who requested them. When it is your turn, first grant microphone access and get ready to sing; the host then starts, pauses, resumes, or skips the song.

Only one singer takes the stage at a time. The room service maintains the song timeline, queue, online members, and chat. Singers can set processing latency for audio plugins, and the system combines this with live connection status so different listeners hear the corresponding vocals as close as possible to the same video position.

Video and Singing Audio Travel on Separate Paths

Video

Stage only resolves and synchronizes video information and playback position. The video itself is loaded by each participant’s browser from the original source and is not relayed through Stage servers.

Singing Voice

Microphone audio is sent to the room in real time via WebRTC Opus whenever possible; if negotiation or network conditions are unsuitable, it can automatically fall back to a real-time PCM channel.

The listener’s video stays on its normal timeline. The system uses the singer-side video lead, connection measurements, and local audio latency to align vocals as closely as possible. Network jitter, device processing, Bluetooth headphones, or audio plugins can still introduce differences; users can check connection hints and adjust settings during a session.

Singing Audio Is Not Recorded

Raw singing audio is relayed only in real time within the current room. It is not written to disk, logged, or used for training. Stage does not send live singing audio to CVoice or other voice-analysis apps.

Room state is stored in single-instance data. About 10 minutes after the last participant leaves, the room is cleaned up. Each room retains at most the latest 200 chat messages, which expire with the room. Nicknames and local avatars are lightweight device identities, not formal accounts.

Public and Invite-Only RoomsPublic rooms appear in the lobby. When switched to invite-only, they are hidden from the lobby, but anyone with the room code or invitation link can still enter. Do not share the room code with people you do not want to join.

Rights for Videos, Backing Tracks, and Performances

Stage can obtain video information and playback URLs from third-party video platforms, but it does not own the copyrights to videos, music, lyrics, or performances, and it cannot guarantee that third-party resolving services will remain available indefinitely. Room creators, song requesters, and performers should confirm that their use complies with the source platform’s rules and that they have appropriate playback, performance, or sharing rights.

Do not play clearly infringing, illegal, hateful, harassing, or privacy-violating content in public rooms. Public chat and performances can be seen or heard by others in the same room. Even though the server does not record audio, other participants may record their screens on their own devices, so do not disclose sensitive personal information in the room.

Get Started

On first entry, the current browser generates a lightweight nickname, which can be changed in personal settings. The page requests microphone permission only when it is your turn and you actively choose to get ready to sing. Listening to music and watching videos do not require microphone access.
